Active Start @ Home - 'Egg Mosaic'

With Spring upon us, it's a fitting time for some fun bunny and egg themed activities...

Materials: YouTube, coloured paper, scissors, glue.

Main Learning Outcomes: Developing fine motor skills and early literacy.

Steps:

(1) First, we will begin by cuddling together for a cute story called, “The Golden Egg Book”, by Margaret Wise Brown. If you don’t have the book at home, you can listen to it by following this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyFfXAWNSQw

(2) To start our mosaic egg activity, we will cut a large egg shape out of paper. Now with some coloured paper, we will cut small random shaped pieces about 1 cm in size. Once you have enough to cover the egg, you can begin gluing the shapes all over the egg. You can try making designs or patterns, or simply place them all randomly on the egg. You can make several different eggs. Once you are done, you can leave them as they are, or you can glue them to a background, adding things like grass. Place them in your windows for your neighbours to see!

Tips:

This is an activity for all ages. Many toddlers are learning to snip, and can even cut their own mosaic pieces, but if they are not quite there yet, let them rip small pieces to encourage independence.
